Michelle Carter sentenced after 5 years

It has been five years since Michelle Carter convinced her boyfriend to commit suicide over text messages. Carter, who is now 22, is beginning her 15 months sentenced. Bristol County Juvenile Court Judge Lawrence Moniz ruled this sentence.

Carter was convicted back in June 2017 of being accused of involuntary manslaughter. Judge Moniz allowed her to remain free while she appealed her conviction. Since then he has upheld the conviction.

This case raised freedom of speech about whether a person should be held responsible for their words for someone else’s actions. I think it does raise questions because yes, you have every right to voice your thoughts but when it’s going to potentially harm someone that’s when it becomes a problem.
