Illusory Truth Effect

The Illusory Truth Effect is something most of us do and don’t even realize it. It’s the effect of believing something is real when it’s not. It happens because of the number of times we see something. When we see something multiple times we automatically start believing and defending it no matter what. It can happen because of our implicit memory. This memory uses past experiences to perform new tasks. When you use your implicit memory, you are more likely to believe something when its similar to what you already experienced.

I think they are many implications that go with this. I think this effect is very harmful towards our society because we are just believing in things without accepting reality and seeing if it’s true or false. We need to open our minds and figure out things without automatically believing in them. It can affect society as a whole because if we are reading something on the internet and believing it's true then going to tell other people we are spreading information around without knowing the whole story.

I think the Illusory Truth Effect can make us uneducated because we are believing but not learning why we believe it or why something is true. This is why when we see something you need to read all the information you can about it.

The Illusory Truth Effect can affect everyone; there is no specific person it would affect more. I think people get affected by it when it has to do with them or the things they like. I think this goes the same with me, if I am reading something its most likely something, I am interested in, and I think this how we can fall into this trap. We need to realize and interpret what we are reading so we don’t get trapped into this effect.
